People say the ice road is cracked more than usual this year, the worst section is about still on the Delta, before you get to the section on the Beaufort Sea. The road now has an unintended crown of approx. 50cm in places due to the cracking. It is interesting driving on the ocean. the shoreline is over by the pingos and back by town. Most of Tuk is right by the shoreline.
Back on the top if Ibyuk Pingo, tallest in Canada, second tallest in the world. Our old track from Feb was still visible, though the Inuvik elementary school trip from a few days previous probably had a lot to do with that. Clear day but windy
The easterly side of Ibyuk, lots of exposed soils and sand. There was a wild fire on this side of the pingo years ago, though there doesn't appear to be much effect of the ice core according to research - Parks annual report.
"summit" shot - via the shadow and a few tracks on reasonable snow, aggressive turns required, ha ha
Afterwards, a circumnavigated Ibyuk then skied over to Split Pingo. scaled the mighty south face - which was good snow for the ski down. good vatage for shots of Inyuk
