Inuvik from Big Lake

Big lake is across the East Three channel, i.e. due west of town. Easily visible from town I thought it'd be interesting to take some shots of town from Big Lake. Ironically big lake is not a big lake, it's just the biggest you can see from Inuvik. There was no wind that day and convective currents were coming off the snow on the lake producing nice mirage effects in some of the images. Mainly shots of the "downtown core" with some of the sprawling residential, ha ha.

The silver tank with the utilidoor leading to town is the water supply and the building with the large exhaust ports is the Power Corp. They are burning LNG and or diesel (big green tank) for power generation. The white building is the IRC building which is under renovation from a fire in the fall of last year.

and some mirage effected pix - impressionistic. The tank farm is a bit wiggly as well

Some sundry and varied pix of a quick ride out to the north side of Campbell Lake via Airport Lake, required a stop for gas. Also some nice instability on a SW facing slope by Airport Lake. The landscape image os looking across Campbell to the highway and my climbing area. The days are getting much longer with the sun setting further and further to the north. Only a few hours of astronomical darkness even now.

and a few of an after work trip into the Delta, towards Aklavik by snowmobile.
