Some shots down by the Inuvik boat ramp during the Mackenzie River Break Up 2015

A little late but not that long ago. people were getting boats in while skidoos were still being used on the remaining ice. The old Elan and toboggan didn't have enough horsepower to hydroplane the gap so it was eventually rescued by getting loaded into a boat. Break up was quick this year, 2015, with the ice moving through in a matter of days once it passed Separation Point in the Delta - ie the place where the Delta actually starts and the Mackenzie River breaks into three distinct channels. Water levels got quite high and, though nothing not seen before, with most of the boat ramp parking submerging and the "old boats," (as the school kids call them - local hangout) actually having water lapping at their hulls. Lots of Candle Ice in places - more shots of such to follow. Sun is up all the time of course.
