I was going through some earlier files and picked some images of my drive up to Inuvik. I didn't stop all that much as I has some time constraints that necessitated a travel time of 2.5 days from southern Alberta to Inuvik. However, some Bison, a Griz (3 actually), and a whole pile of really climbable rock is along the Dempster ( a motivated person could put up a lot of sport routes on that weathered limestone).
Dawson City, where gas was $1.65. Wasn't planning on going to Dawson, as it's an 80km diversion, but since the gas station at the junction of the Dempster and the paved highway burnt down, it's the only option. Ha ha. town looks nice, didn't see where Robert Service hung out as I only did a drive through as 12 plus hours on the Dempster was waiting.
The southern half of the Dempster, before Eagle Plains. Light snow and a grey day, with the road not exactly up to resource industry standards, ie log haul roads. A couple of the trail heads near the start of the gravel had vehicles parked there so obviously hiking. The rock looks quite appealing, with the one tower looking like a smaller version of the Tower of Babel at Moraine Lake.
Wright Pass - the border between Yukon Territories and the Northwest Territories. It's all down hill from there...to the Delta. This Griz was wandering around in a relaxed fashion just north of the pass.
Ubiquitous ferry shots over the Mackenzie, about 10:30 PM
Back to Inuvik, land of overhead wires, in warmer weather. The building behind the taxi has just been demolished, so it's gone. The channel is now frozen, so no more boating, lol. Second pic has the grounded barge the GPS Explorer in the distance, little chance that will be refloated anytime soon.
Some flora in the bush outside of town. Lots of berries fro bears but don't tend to see many of them or signs of grazing.
